Direct flights from Cali and Medellin to Panama City planned.

Avianca has permission from Colombian authorities to operate two direct routes from Colombia to Panama.

Colombia's national airline, Avianca, has received permission from the Colombian equivalent of our CAA to operate two new direct services from Colombia to Panama. Whilst the Colombians have sanctioned the new routes the airline and the Colombian govt. still await confirmation from their Panamanian counterparts before final arrangements can be made.
Once permission is received Avianca will press ahead with their plans to introduce non stop flights from Cali and from Medellin to Panama City. The information we have received from Avianca only confirms the routes but does not make any reference to a proposed date that services could commenced. However, once Avianca receive the permission the wheels should spin fairly quickly and services could begin within weeks of their receiving notification. Keep and eye on these news pages as we will keep you informed just as soon as we have more details.
Avianca applied to operate these two routes as they firmly believe there is the volume of traffic in both the leisure and business markets to sustain direct flights. Currently passengers have to change flights en route adding hours to their journey times. these new and direct flights would therefore be a welcome addition to the Avianca network.
Initially a Fokker 100 aeroplane will be used which can accommodate 97 passengers-8 inn Clase Ejecutiva (Business) and 87 in economy. If passenger loads dictate it may be necessary for Avianca to review the aircraft capacity and aircraft type used.
