Avianca Celebrates 90th Birthday

Colombian Airline, AVIANCA has reached the grand old age of 90.
On Saturday December 5, Avianca celebrates its 90th birthday. The airline has completed nine decades of continuous service, connecting the various regions of Colombia as well as linking Coombia with the world. With a renewed spirit of service, Avianca is commemorating the anniversary with several generations of Colombians and non-Colombians who have served the airline during its 90 years.

Avianca was the first airline founded in the Americas and the second in the world. Since the first flight aboard a Junkers F-13 between Barranquilla and the town of Puerto Colombia carrying a sack of mail including 57 letters, to today where the airline has a fleet of 63 aircraft with 42 destinations served by direct flights in 14 countries, Avianca represents Colombia's image to the world.

On 5th December 1919, in Barranquilla, the legal constitution of the Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transportes Aereos, Scadta was signed and immediately it opened up a new way to realize the dreams of millions of Colombians and travelers who wanted to shorten travel times from one place to another. Today, under the name Avianca, with a renewed spirit of service and in the midst of an accelerated process of change, the company completes nine decades of continuous operation, operating hundreds of thousands of flights and carrying millions of people both in Colombia and around the world. uring these nine decades, Avianca has been the protagonist of the greatest moments in Colombian history. Each flight carries a story, an accomplishment or an achievement for generations of Colombians and foreigners who have given their life to the service of Avianca. Throughout its existence the airline has witnessed the transformation of air travel. With the addition of the most advanced equipment in each decade, the company has been at the forefront of technology. Over the 90 years Avianca has used about 40 different types of equipment in its fleet. The story of the first airline in the Americas and the second in the world has unfolded in parallel with the progress of the global aviation industry.

Celebrating 90 years of Avianca, the President of the Company, Fabio Villegas Ramirez, said: "On our anniversary, every one of the family members want to thank Avianca travelers and customers for prefering our products and services over the decades. Thankyou to each of these people, Colombians and foreigners, who have chosen Avianca and helped us make a great contribution to the great Avianca story - that is renewed on every flight. Today our goal is to continue working hard in pursuit of the continuous improvement of our route network, quality and diversification of our services in air transportation both of passengers and cargo, aviation and support tourism plans and in implementing innovations that allow us to make it an easy, enjoyable and fulfilling experience of traveling to most points in Colombia, the Americas and the world.
